Houston, TX – Houston based Latin Hip Hop Artist Mayalino’s work has been tapped for the movie soundtrack of the critically acclaimed and highly anticipated independent feature film “The PowderKids.” Film director Buddy Calvo selected his single, “Hustlas of the Same Kind,” for placement in movie. “The PowderKids” will premiere on Thursday, August 19, 2010.
Mayalino has recently captured the ears and attention of the music scene after the success of his last mixtape project and the release of his latest video for single, (“Say Yeah”). Both are getting major placement and views. “I am definitely a fan of Texas hip hop, and Mayalino has been a talented find. He has a bright future and a great story to share with listeners,” says director Buddy Calvo. Mayalino is currently in studio completing his latest album project, most recently recording with Hip Hop Icon Scarface.
“The Powderkids” is the coming of age story of Lucas, a college student who dreams of becoming a writer. After being placed on academic probation, Lucas is forced to apply for extra credit and a chance to get his scholarship back. He returns to his hometown to write the tale that will save his collegiate career, and it’s Lucas’ return that reunites him with high school friends, his diminished relationship with his mother, the city he left behind and ultimately the story that he’s been looking for. Lucas is quickly embraced by the old friends who know him best, and is quickly brought into their lifestyle of girls, cars, clubs and drugs. Hesitant initially, Lucas realizes that it won’t be easy to write the tale without living it.
